Recently, Alex and I went to his friend's house for a housewarming. In their backyard, he had one of those mini-playground sets, complete with woodchips. Isabelle, who is normally shy when she first meets new people or is in a new situation, will quite often withdraw, ask me to hold her, and cling on to me until she gets comfortable (about 10 minutes). I thought she'd be the same, as usual, so I let her know we were going to a house with lots of people who were Appa's friends. As we walked into the house, she clung to me. But right when we walked outside to the backyard, Isabelle's eyes lit up. She quickly slid down my leg and ran excitedly toward the playground.
When it was time to go home, I said, "Isabelle, you have five more minutes to play. Then we are going home." Five minutes passed by.
Me: Isabelle? Let's go. It's time to leave.
Izzie: No, Eomma! I am still playing!
And playing she was! This girl's shoe had fallen off at one point, but she didn't care. She ran around the dirt and woodchips with one shoe, slid down the slide backwards and on her tummy, and played on the swings. She was so happy! Needless to say, since she had discovered the joy of playing with dirt that day, she was in definite need of a bath!
