I have been waking Isaiah up at 5:30 A.M. to nurse him on the days I go to work. He'll usually nurse for about 20 minutes, I'll change his diaper, then he goes right back to sleep after exchanging some coos with me. I was hoping he would sleep in on my days off. No such luck. Both days, he woke himself up at 5:30 A.M. to nurse. And this past Thursday morning, he even pooped on our bed. I was being lazy and just changing his diaper in the dark on top of our bed. MISTAKE! So, a load of laundry at 6 A.M. on my day off was not what I was imagining. Still, I was happy to be with my babies.
Thursday morning, Isabelle planted the biggest kiss on my lips and woke me up from "sleeping in" (which means she woke me up at 7:00 A.M.), and said, "Eooooooommmaaaaa! Wake up?! Can I have mam mah please? And can I do reindeer puzzle?"
I think I was still sleeping while I did the reindeer puzzle with her. Oops!
Then, when I decided to actually wake up and get off the bed, Isabelle kept herself occupied while I brushed my teeth. She started saying, "Jellyfish! Jellyfish!" I asked her, "What are you talking about? What jellyfish?" She grabbed the diffuser portion of the hair dryer and lifted it up, saying quite matter-of-factly, "Jellyfish!" I guess it does look like a jellyfish!
I smiled and said, "Let's go change your diaper." She said, "Nooooooooooo, Eomma!"shaking her finger at me. I just looked at her and repeated myself. She said, "Sorry, Eomma!" I asked Isabelle, "What are you saying sorry for?" She responded, "I'm being mean to Eomma." Haha!
We went downstairs together and she watched as I changed the load of laundry that had been started in the wee hours of the morning. Isabelle said, "Eomma? Are you doing dishes?" Then she answered her own question and said almost to herself, "No... Eomma is doing bballae (laundry). I will help Eomma."
She quickly became distracted when she spotted the empty box of cheez-its sitting on top of our trash can. And at 7:30 in the morning she decided to ask me if she could have some cheez-its. Since she had not eaten breakfast yet, I told her that she couldn't. She stared at the box and yelled upstairs, "Alex?! Alex?! Could I have cheez-its please?"
Isabelle didn't even wait for an answer. Instead, she asked me if she could watch her Elmo Potty Time DVD. I didn't see it, so I asked her, "Where is your DVD?" She said, "At Izzie's jib (house)." I asked her, "Where? I don't see it." She said, "No, Eomma. Not this one. At other Izzie jib." Then looking past me, she started calling out, "Mom? Mom?!" I was so confused! I said, "I'm mom! I'm right here!" She said, "Nooooo. Mom. Geu oehalmoni (maternal grandma)." Hahaha! She was talking about my mom, her halmoni, and calling her what I call her. Mom. Hahahahaha!
She hopped around and then started singing "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and "Jingle Bells" over and over again. Apparently Christmas was not over, in her eyes.
When she finished singing, she brought me her apron and said, "Eomma? Tie apron, please. I have to cook right now." (If only she could actually make herself some breakfast!)
All of this happened before 8:00 A.M. These are the mornings I miss when I am not with my babies. :) So tender, so precious, so much fun (poop on bedsheets and all)! I love this stage that Isabelle is in! She's so energetic and her personality is emerging more and more. I enjoy having these little conversations with her in the morning. And my baby Isaiah? His coos are so sweet and expressive, and I feel like he is really talking to me. :)
So, I survived my first week back. It wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. Still, I'm counting down the days of the rest of the school year so I can enjoy every morning with my babies. Sigh... Monday, here I come!
